Default Anyone have the Thule North Cape cargo box?

I'm thinking about getting a new box. I have an old Thule Summit...which is a pain in butt to put on / take off, difficult to open and very noisy on the highway. The new Thule North Cape looks very cool. 16 cu ft, 6 - 8 pairs of skis and low profile (like a Packasport). If anyone has this box on an ar, pic please!!

Default A buddy of mine has the North Cape on his.

Looks sweet. Haven't seen it for a while, but if I recall correctly, it's pretty wide. If you plan to have bike attachments on as well there might not be room, unless you've got bars wide enough to mount trays outboard of the feet (maybe a non-issue for you, but a consideration for me).

Will ask him for a pic.

Default I have the Evolution 1600

I only needed length enough for snowboards - no 2-stick Dicks in my family (it would probably fit up to ~180cm, though - my 167cm board has plenty of margin). Capacity would easily hold 5-6 snowboards (w/ bindings) or 6 pr skis.

Quite happy with it - quiet (LOTS quieter than an open ski rack on the Thule), and narrow enough to fit at least one bike mount alongside. Dual-hinge system is really slick. Built-in tiedowns are a very nice touch. Light enough for me to put on by myself (but just barely). The silver top doesn't exactly match my Highland Green, though. Good thing I'm a function-over-form type.

Default Nice Box!

Always wanted to say that in conversation, would have been perfect if you were a woman...though a male snowboarder is pretty close. ;-) Just kidding, just kidding. Couldn't let that "2 stick dick" thing go. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed on so many levels. I'll make it up to you, tickets at Alta are on me....wait...no snowboarders....OK how about something closer to home?, tickets at Mad River on me.....umm, forget it. Think they'll ever have snowborder only mountains?

1600 is very nice and quiet. My bud is a snowboarder and has a Thule 1600 on his 325ix wagon. All of my skis are bigger than 180 so I'd need something longer (though I think you can get one or two pair of 180+ in the 1600 diagonally). The North Cape is black (like my car), is low profile and I like the look of it. Width is about the same as the 1600 (33" vs 32" for the North Cape). Quality is also pretty high, apparently the North Cape is made in Sweeden (other Thule boxes are made in Chicago) and has a metal frame. Its the closest box in quality to the Packasport without the Packasport price (and weight). Can't wait to see what it looks like on an ar.

Default Half the edge, twice the man!

To paraphrase a kayaking motto.

I hope you don't get killed for that last subject line - I laughed!

Default Better Nate than lever....

Here are a few-

Looks like he was able to squeeze on one bike attachment:

He's actually showing me his freshly painted bike in this one, but it gives a good view of the box on the car too:

Personally I think it's TOO low profile, and I prefer the Thule Evolution ones better.

Default Thanks much!

Thule claims 16 cu ft but I think a lot of that is lost in the areas that sink below the cross bars...i.e. inside the bottom is not flat. I love the way this box looks and have been a fan of the Packasport for a while but I'm not willing to pay $800 for one. Thansk again for the pics.
