Do you use the factory jack points w/aftermaket floor jacks?

Do you use the factory jack points w/aftermaket floor jacks?
I'm going to be purchasing a 2.5 ton floor jack later today. Do you need special attachments for unibody cars and is 2.5 tons enough or should I purchase a 3 ton jack?

2.5 tons should be fine. The cars are just over 2 tons. When lifting a corner you might lift 30% of the vehicle weight.
Many new jacks have a rubber/hard plastic pad, you might want to cut a groove in it so you don't bend the lift seam.
If the jack doesn't have a rubber/ plastic pad you should make one..
