Default Does the seconary air pump affect Inspection?

I just got a nice $65 ticket for expired inspection. My secondary airpump is going off every morning now when I start up the car. If i brought my AR to get inspected, would that show up and would make me fail?

I also installed a BBK, and haven't put a pin in the pad wear sensor, so I have a "brake light" light on the dash. Would that affect it as well?

Thanks.

Default it depends on your state...

if you need fully functioning brakes, and the inspector sees the warning light..you are DOA. If you are getting any VAG codes as a result of the bad air pump this too will cause a failure. Assuming your state like NY and NJ and CA all hook up to the OBD port and look for rediness codes.

If you don't have a VAG, go to an Auto Zone and ask them to do a EPA code scan and see if you have any codes. Or better yet, go to your area forum and find a good indy to solve the problems.

Im In NYC..

I dont have to worry much about the brake light because I know the mechanic. I'm just worried the secondary air pump will throw a code and I'll fail because of it.

I have no CEL for sure though.

Default The Secondary Air injection system only throws a code....

...on the second consecutive startup. Find a vag to erase the code before you go in, and you're golden. This can even be done with the engine running.

Default but....

only...ONLY erase this one code. If you clear all the ECU, you will fail as the ECU is not ready. You need to have history of time and miles in the ECU to pass.

Default You could short the brake pad wear sensor at the connector in the wheel well.

Should turn off your brake warning light. I should be careful about saying that. Most sensor pads go OPEN when they wear through. But some actually are normally open and go CLOSED when the plastic wears and the circuit is completed by the rotor. So, I have to say I'm not really sure which way the Audi works. Or, while you are in the wheel well anyway, install that sensor properly. :-)

But I don't know how the SAI pump effects the emissions error codes.

How many miles do you have to drive to get "READY" status on the ECU? Maybe you could visit a VAG owner at a far-away place in the morning, get reset and drive those XX miles to the inspection.
