Default For el Trusto de Braino: What, and how many, different things could cause this?...

I'm getting an intermittent, strange triggering of my traction control - light comes on and I can feel front, I think left, brake pulse - in gradual, steady state cornering. Happened three times on a twisty drive last night and only when the turn was to the left. Each time made me jump a little because I wasn't pushing it, no where near grip limits. Activated out of nowhere. I have two pre existing things going on:

1. Something's making a knocking sound up front. Until last night I thought it was the belly pan, but it might not be. I haven't felt any wandering or extra tramlining under braking increase.

2. I'm starting to get a high freq. vibration (not wheel and tire balance) when I do full throttle, full revs acceleration up through 3 and 4th gear, more noticeable when going up hill. I suspect I'm beginning to need axle work, but it's so slight the dealer, of course, will be blind to it. My indy at last service said he looked at the inner CV's and said they were fine, but I don't know.

The sled's going in on the ninth to my indy for a new suspension sensor and I want to help steer him in the right direction.

So that's it. Discuss.

Happy New Year, everyone.
Nick.

I believe there was a TSB for the ESP sensor at some point. A search will give more clues.

Default It could be...

It could be the steering angle sensor as Ex-PzKW Cdr mentioned.

The TSB 03AR2rescu is referring to is "ESP Premature Intervention"

Technical Service Bulletin (#A45-04-01 ESP Premature Intervention) from November 30, 2004.

Affects ESP/ABS module version D55 and earlier on the allroad. Version can be checked via VAG-COM.

As an FYI, the allroad's module is on the passenger side under the carpet. Learned this the hard way. Dealer replaced my ABS pump assembly several times thinking it was integrated with it. Appearantly all the other Audi's have the module incorporated into the actual ABS pump...

Good luck!
Gavin

Default Traction module is on the firewall on the Pass side just above your feet.

Latest code version is D66, however I would recenter the steering angle sensor first. And you are correct about the module, allroads, 4.2 A6, and A8's are seperate. The ABS "module" on the pump is nothing but relays.

Default It may be the steering angle sensor...

It usually needs a VAG re zero after an alignment, but I guess it can become faulty as well.

It the activation on the twisties that suggests this. The car is sterring and the system thinks you are sliding.

Default Thanks guys, this is all great info. Will definitely use it when talking to the Dealership.
