Default faint metal griding noise help...

The metal grinding noise is constant is very faint. I only noticed it when I started to drive with the windows down. The noise seem to go away when I apply the brakes. The dealer has changed to pads and did something with sandpaper to try getting rid of the noise but no luck. Any ideas?

Default Sandpaper? You're kidding, right? How about re-surfacing the rotors? That is standard procedure

if new Pads are applied. Any Color changes or markings on the Rotor visible (Purple or so)?
And what kind of pads are used? Stock or AM?

It could also be that one of the Pistons is faulty and keeps a permanent pressure point on the pad.

Lots of possibilities.....

Default Just wait until you get rotor scoring caused by the sand left in the pads

Let's hope the sandpaper was for the repair technician for scatching his backside while trying to figure out how to do the job correctly.

Default Some reading material..by Stoptech.

they actually mention in a sentence further down :do not use regular Sand paper or sand blast the rotors.

It may help in your troubleshooting to go after the cause, not the symptom.

http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm</a

Default Sandpaper

They may have sanded the edges of the pads, ie: adding a chamfer. This is supposed to help with brake squels. Some pads come like that.

Default Xtreetoes...I think you may be right on the leading edges...

of the pads being sanded down. I did a visual and all four pads seems to have been rounded off at the edges. I don't recall the pads being this way before.
