Default front suspension airbag options

What are options to replacing the front airbags that won't pump up. Can I convert to conventional suspension?, or is it not cost-effective? Anybody out there that's done it?

Currently $1700 quote to replace both front bags. Probably reasonable, but I'm thinking this is not the right time of life to continue allroad ownership

Default you need to replace the entire system...about 1800 + labor.

front and rear with a coil over retrofit. You will lose all adjustability and perhaps have some electronic glitches, yet to be rectified.

Replacing the air springs...if really needed is about 800.00 per corner P+L at a reasonable indy shop.

BUT...how was it diagnosed that both airspring failed?

The front used to bleed down overnight when left in Pos 1 or 2. Would always stay up if left in 3 or 4. Gradually it became worse, bleeding down after just a few minutes, but again, still would stay up in pos 3 or 4. Finally, it had gotten to the point of not pumping up at all, and the front end stayed bottomed out.

Default 1700 seems a little high no? 1000 parts 4 hours labor. Have you considered DIY or slime for that

matter.

Default Like Paul was getting at..i think.. it likely is only one spring, the other sags b/c of the increase

load. There usually is a side that is a little lower and that one is the culprit.

Default Re: Cost of replacement

I have a friend that's a mechanic (owns Import Automotive in Beaverton, OR) and says the latest cost for the bags is near $700.00 each. When he replaced his on his own car the cost was near $500.00 a couple years ago. Plus labor of course.

Sounds reasonable, and you won't be able to sell the car without fixing them anyway.
