Has anyone had a problem with the rear hatch not locking?

I had a problem with it not opening....
Happened when I got the car new in early '03. The rear hatch would intermittently not open. I could hear the click when I used the remote or key to unlock, but it just wouldn't budge. Dealer made several attempts to fix and eventually had to replace the whole lock mechanism. Turned out that Audi had a batch of faulty locks and I believe it was also a problem on the Passat estate.
