the model number of the replacement battery. Trying to do some preventative maintenance on my 2001 allroad...just in case. 4 years is about where the OEM battery starts to give out, yes?

I thought about it when I replaced mine, but fit is a concern.
In fact I could not find any aftermarket battery that would fit well so I bought another Audi battery.
I just didn't feel like screwing around trying to fabricate custom tie downs for a non-oem shaped battery. I figured all it has to do is start the car and last 3-5 years and I will be happy. I've owned Optimas in the past and I will probably put a pair in my boat this spring, but for the allroad I figured why bother.

i haven't replaced my OEM battery yet, but thought there may be a direct replacement. >>
i like the Optima battery concept and would like to go with that as well, but like you said...if its an issue of fabricating a custom tie-down...why bother. I would think that they would have something that would fit as a direct replacement...but problem with their website, there's no specific auto-fitting guide. I will probably put one in my TT...its a Model 34R (for reversed post).

I think Optimas are available only in a couple of form factors
they may list a direct replacement, but my experience is that they just have the same post arrangement and not the other critical dimensions. In many newer cars the battery fits like a glove rather than just being plopped down in on a battery tray.
