Default How often should the oil be changed?

5k or 6mo, right? Looking at buying a used AR, but its first service was 14mo after purchase. PPI mechanic said that's a big deal. I've asked a few others, they said not an issue. Then I asked another mechanic and he said while the oil wont have a problem with that timeframe, the detergent in the oil will breakdown and cause problems in that timeframe.

The first service was at 6500 miles, second was 13mo later, 13k miles.

What say ye allroad knowledgeable on 12mo+ between servicing?

Default Agree with Paulroad, use a good synthetic, 5K to 8K and you'll be fine...

oil is good for over 10k, its the filter I begin to worry about.

Seconded. It's all about mileage, not time.

Default The book recommends 5k or 6 months for the first two changes then...

at every 10k or 12 months.
The question is what oil did they use, pretty much everybody on this forum recommends synthetic oil. Audi does not require synthetic on the 2.7T.

I am happy with 10k between oil changes - synthetic only.

Default Agreed on the interval. I have been using mobile 1 0w-40 full synth.

Make sure you get the OEM filter (mann I believe). I have been told the bosch is not as good. Other than the fact that you need to remove the belly cover, the oil change is really easy. The filter is in a great location on the 2.7t.

Default I use a combo of time/miles and looking at the oil

usually end up changing around 5k-7k intervals.

Default I change the oil + filter every 5k and use Shell Rotella T syn diesel oil.

The SL rated oils are simply better than the SM rated oils because they have more zinc which protects against wear better.
