Johann remembers us -- B8 A4 allroad
Dont know if you all read the AW review of the new A4 avant, but at the end there is some interesting news. I think we all remember de Nysschen`s replies to our collective outrage at being bereft of allroad models here in the US. Well he seems to be mindful and maybe it will pay off. See below.
"In a bit of a surprise move de Nysschen did mention that he would be supportive of an A4 allroad variant for the US market. Clearly Audi of America is aware of the loyal allroad owner base which is still smarting from Audi of America's decision to supplant the latest generation A6 allroad with the Q7 SUV. Outfitting an A4 Avant as an allroad model might help Audi compete with similar offerings from the likes of Subaru while throwing the allroad contingent a proverbial bone."

throwing the allroad contingent a proverbial bone -- 2.0T slushbox?
I think that is a reciepe for disaster. We need something more interesting tham that.
Either a TDI/6speed
Or S4 powertrain/6speed
The added weight of the suspension will need more than the 2.0T and the I don't think the 3.2 V6 will cut it either.

I agree, if the 2.0T can't power an A3 and the 3.2 can get an A3 peppy with quattro
it would depend upon how heavy the A4 variant is IMHO...it would have to weigh more than the A3 I would think and be larger and sit higher or why bother.

Cant power an A3? It does an excellent job, properly tuned like in the S3...
or flashed and its downright viscous, I've been in many chipped B7 A4 2.0T and owned a 2.0T A3 and it blows the 3.2 away. Now I agree stock on the B7 with quattro the 2.0T is a bit underwhelming, but it has so much more potential than that, once properly tuned (which it will have to be with the added B8 weight) its putting out similar numbers to the 2.7t.
