So there may be some allies in getting AoA to work on it.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/303820.phtml">Tip Issues B6 A4</a></li></ul>

I have noticed it in several loaner vehicles....
Since I have had numerous loaner cars while the allroad has been in the shop, I have sampled every version of A4 quattro and an A6 3.0. They all displayed tip lag to a varying degree. The worst was the 2002 A6 3.0. Suprisingly, the only loaner that did not display it at all was a VW Passat 1.8t with front drive. Maybe it is something with the tip/quattro combination.

That's not how I read it...
...The description of the behavior in the original post on the B6/A4 board looks to me more like torque-converter behavior:
<I>"Starting from stop in "D" and "S" mode.
1. I depress the gas pedal about 1/2 way
2. after upshift from 1st to 2nd gear as the rpm increase to 3900 rpm the rpm actually drop about 100 then pickup and increase through 6000 "</I>
What's been called "tip lag" here affects dead- or rolling-start acceleration -- you push the pedal and car just sits. Whether it's associated with the transmission or the brake/accelerator interlock is a matter of discussion.
This small over-rev on shifting (followed by a return to a slightly lower rpm) sounds to me like torque converter "slip" before it locks up, rather like slipping a clutch on sloppy shifting. It's said that the GIAC Tip Chip cures this.

My 2 cents...
Regardless of the problem or the solution it seems that Audi's strength does not lie with its throttle or transmission components. I was recently test driving a BMW 325i with a tip transmission and I'd have to say that the transmission was superior to any automatic transmission I've encountered with Audi. The BMW tip shifts were quicker and smoother. Also, no throttle lags. Of course, truth-be-told I've never encountered the Audi lag problem with any other car I've ever owned, foreign or domestic. I believe it is the single worst problem with Audi cars, and although I love my allroad, it causes me to question whether I will ever own another Audi.

This week's Autoweek complained about it in their Passat W8 review.
Seems like VAG needs to clean house in their tranny engineering dept.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=lon gtermtests&loc_code=index&content_code=030 27660">http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=lon gtermtests&loc_code=inde
