Porsche Cayenne 11mpg in the city. No thanks.

Not thrilled with 11mpg, but with the Porsche it's the driving experience...
From what I've read, this suv will handle dynamically like no other suv. As for "only" 7.2sec for the S model, as those of us with allroads understand, it's not just 0-60 that makes a vehicle fast. I'll take superior vehicle dynamics over raw 0-60 speed anytime. Take a look at the latest report in Road and Track about how they tested the Cayenne.
As I see it, the Cayenne's problem is that it is an answer to a question nobody asked. Yes, it handles like a tall 911, but "most" people who buy suvs aren't looking for that level of performance. The allroaders here who mod the cars with chips and wheels are a small minority. Porsche's biggest mistake though, is in the trying too hard to develop a family lineage with the outside appearance of the vehicle. They should have just used a clean slate and designed something ground breaking stylistically.

Definitely agree about the styling...
but as they've already sold out their initial production run of 25,000 cars it seems the Cayenne is an answer to a question that is being asked by a goodly number of people. Remember that, thanks to the co-development deal with VW, Porsche does not need to sell a whole lot of the cars to make a fancy profit from them.

You are right on the money about the Cayenne
styling/purpose -- it doesn't make any sense. EXCEPT that Porsche believes it is the key to the company's economic survival. Sigh.
