Default Question on the tailgate

Has anyone figured out a way to tie the tailgate down when hauling long items? We hauled some 8 foot green treated lumber yesterday that hung out and found it very difficult to tie the tailgate down. We finally removed the safety diamond in the tailgate and used its Velcro to tie some rope to. We kept our fingers crossed it wouldn't break. Tying the lumber down was easy; we just used the hooks in the cargo area. Any thoughts...

You can push the latch in the tailgate until it locks and put one hook of a tarp strap through that, then pull down and use the other half of the latch (in the cargo floor) for the other hook by depressing the metal plate. Just make sure to use a tarp strap, NOT a bungee cord, and of course remember to use the latch release button or the remote to unlock the tailgate again before closing it.

Default Re: Excellent suggestion

I looked at that yesterday but quickly discarded the thought. Now that I take a closer look it should work. Turns off the tailgate open warning on the dash also. Now to find the proper strap.

Thanks...
