Ok, this isn't as interesting as a chip or exhaust system upgrade question but I was wondering why Audi changed the AR shifter **** from 2001 to 2002. The car I test drove (a 2001) had a nice burled wood shift ****. My 2002 arrived with a leather-covered ****, good but not nearly as nice as the wood one. Is it possible to change out the leather shifter for the wood one?

you can probably change(not sure) chrome trim ring on 01's get hot as hell in sun

In a discussion about short shifters on the A6 forum recently, someone mentioned that the '02 shift **** does not screw on/off like previous MY's. It is apparently one piece and therefore one can't change it.

I went through this after delivery...long story posted last month. Anyway, the end of it was that I ordered the wood **** from my parts dept, and service installed it :&gt

Do you have tip or 6sp? Perhaps that's the difference.
