update on the turbo upgrade:
about a half hour ago I got this note from the guy doing the work on the car:
"Update!!!
Turbos are in, fly wheel, clucth and transmission are back on the motor, and the motor is in the subframe. The "Package" is ready to go back in the car in the AM. I just finished wiring the 02 sensors for the longer reach needed on the piggie pipes.
It is now 6:40 and I am ready to do home and relax for the evening. Tomorrow we will stuff the package in the car and await the arrivial of the exhaust and the fueling kit on Wed.
Now i just need to make some time to chip, and install the exhaust, on this beautiful Porsche 996 TT I have here.
Man I love my job!"

no such luck. Adams county is in the metro area so its required.
2 miles north of here is weld county and they wouldnt be required.
in any case the piggy pipes just gut the pre cats and keep the main cats. should still pass emissions.

Re: update on the turbo upgrade:
Very exciting; where is your tuner located? BTW, I was planning on going with Piggie Pipe upgrade instead of new Audi cats (thanks for the reco). Do VAST pipes need O2 sensor wires lengthened?
Thanks, Thom

piggies and cats are two differnt parts...
the piggies replace the standard downpipes. They are Gutted downpipes, the catalytic interior is removed. After this you still have the larger cats in the exhaust system. If you need new cats, going to piggies will not change this.

partly right..
the downpipes actually have both portions - the precat and the main cat. in the piggy pipes the pre-cat is gutted leaving the main cat intact. here is a picture of the piggy pipes from vast.

the puldge near the flange on the right side is the pre-cats. the larger tanks at the other end (middle of the pic) are the main cats which stay.

I got my pipes from VAST, so yes they do need the wires lengthened to reach
the new location of the 02 sensor bung. Vast was great to deal within getting those.
as for the folks doing the work on my car - they are in Denver - Autobahn Premier Service.

I thought the stuff after the flex section wasn't considered part of the downpipe.
I mean, it's nice that Vast includes new cats in their product, but to me (and I may very well be wrong), that's not part of the ar downpipe.
