an utterly new experience

Last Friday on the way home, a gorgeous black porsche boxster S with the top down (it was a nice day in colorado last friday) pulled up next to my allroad at a stoplight. He was somewhat behind me where the window pillar blocked by view of the driver. He sat there for a minute and then he then pulled up even with me. He was checking the allroad out from one end to the other... we pulled up for the next change of lights (i hate this street) and he again ended up beside me and motioned for me to roll down the window... and says.

"That is a great looking car!"

My first thougth was "Yeah, isn't it!" but decided on "Well... yours is too!" which it was. We then chatted about the allroad until the light went green.

I have to admit I've *never* been complimented on *my* car by a porsche pilot.

I live in Toronto Canada and have had the allroad for two months and I must agree it gets a great deal of attention. This morning we woke to 8 inches of snow and plenty of traffic. There is nothing like the feeling of driving through the streets with a confidence that you can go anywhere. I have several cars in the garage and this is the only one that is on the road today. It can draw a crowd with the best of them.

Crazy isn't it? I thought all of my cars were stealth performers, especially that beloved Saab-o-mine. Guess I was wrong because I had about 5 people walk up to me to talk about the allroad in the first 2 weeks of ownership alone. It's defiantely a very hot car.

I described it this way when I had ordered it (but hadn't got it yet).

It's a stationwagon...

with a V6...

oh, yeah with a standard transmission...

and did mention it was a 6 speed?

and um... uh oh, yeah... twin turbos!

and it's an Audi!

Who would have thought?

Back when I was a kid stuck in the back of my parents ford station wagon, I never thought, that I would own a station wagon like one of these Allroads. What a hoot!

We have had the same experience with our allroad since the first day that we got it. It is primarily my wife's car and almost everyday without fail, someone commpliments her on the car either at work, running errands or at the car wash. It has become a running joke in the house! Instead of "how was your day?" I ask, "anyone talk about your car today?"
Great car, great looks, great purchase!
