Disabling foot-activated hatch?
Is there a way to disable the foot activated rear hatch, short of cutting the cable to whatever sensor? It never works for me to open; however, it always works for me to close when I'm digging deep in the trunk. I guess it senses my leg/foot right at/under the bumper. I'm getting really tired of getting hit by the lid, ever if so gently and with the beep announcement.

According to this website, ODBeleven can disable this feature. Let me know how this works out for you. I'm tempted to purchase one and try it.

DISABLE AUTOMATIC KICK-TO-OPEN REAR LID
- For e-tron with foot gesture under rear bumper to open/close rear lid.
- After tweak, automatic opening and closing rear lid is disabled
- Might be useful if you have "nervous" sensors thet opens and closes when you dont want it to.
Adaptation
Control unit: 46 Central Module Comfort System
Name: Personalization settings vehicle
Values:
Rear lid unlocking through rear lid opening sensors:
Old value: On
New value: Off

Audi fix
I originnally wrote the article on disabling the gesture automation with OBDeleven, because of the nervous behaviour of this function on my 2019 e-tron.
Recently I had a go in the Audi service website ElsaWeb and I found a TPI that might be the fix for this behaviour.
Contact your workshop and ask if TPI 2056351/3 (sw upgrade) is appliccable for your car. The description of this TPI:
"Unintentional deployment of the gesture-controlled rear lid because of sensitive triggering"
I am getting this on my car in a months time (planned service). Sure hope this can make this nice feature stable and usable :-)

Thanks for the pointer. I'll try to completely disable it; I have it on my S4 as well and it never works when I want it to, for me it's another solution to a problem that I didn't know I had.

Curious if anyone ever found a way to disable to the foot-activated hatch? It's driving me insane that every-time I dig in the trunk, I'm changing my kid or I'm getting changed into cycling gear the trunk closes on me. My youngest now throws a fit if we use my car, he is rightly scared as the trunk closed on him and hit his head. I took it to the dealership and they said, "don't have your key on you when you're going in the trunk", I said "where do you suggest I put it", they *shrugged.

I do see it in OBD11 - you will need to find someone with this or similar to get it done
