Default Got a ticket. Mounted front plate without screws.

I live in a state requiring front plates. Got a fix it ticket. This is a pretty simple, no cost solution. Plate was very secure and left not a mark on the grille.

Drill four holes in the mounting plate. The large one should be slightly bigger than the ratchet end of the tie wrap.

Thread tie wrap around lowest horizontal slat. I used a small piece of electrical tape to protect the grille from scratches.

Thread the tie wraps through the mounting plate and cinch them down just enough so they are secure yet can be rotated back into the large hole.

Clip off the excess and rotate the ratchet end into the large hole.

Plate can now lie flush against mount.

Screw the plate to the mount. The included screws I got don't touch the grille.

Came with my car. It should have been provided to you if front plates are required in your state. Otherwise, should be orderable through Audi.

LavaGrau - Thanks for posting the details picture and the instructions. This is a great idea. My dealer left the front plates off and told me they didn't want to drill holes on the beautiful front grill. Name: photo532.jpg

Digging up this old post in hopes the OP is still tracking it. Any issues with the holder flapping around without the bottom being secured? I’m leaning towards doing this on the wife’s e-Tron but not being able to secure the bottom has me worried.

I've had those tie wraps fail over time in UV...they get brittle and just fall off. Use good ones...and keep an eye on them.

Just use a loop of 550 cord on one side as well as the zip tie's. I have neve had one fail but I have the piece of 550 cord there just in case. It will not rot. You may need to gut it in order get it to fit more nicely. Melt the ends to prevent fraying and you will have to cut it off when you want to remove it. (It does not need to be taught if you are using it as a safety.)

(You can get 550 cord now from any hardware store and it is available online from amazon in 100 lengths and colors.)

Oh and mine is a lease and it came pre installed. Had it been a purchased outright I would have made it very clear that there was to be no drilling as part of the dealer prep. Most Tesla's I see around DC do not have their front plates preinstalled. Funnily most owners just seem to have them sitting on the inside of their front windshield. I have never seen a ticket on a parked one for improperly displayed tag. DC makes a HUGE portion of its budget on parking tickets, so I would think that Ddot would ticket them if they wanted to .

Ah yes, the Peoples Republic of California. The wife got a no front license ticket ages ago on an Arizona registered car at LAX. Arizona doesn't require a front plate. I'm waiting for another on now that we're back over on the coast.

Seems to be lightly enforced here in VA. On my car I would just leave it off, but I don’t want the wife having to deal with any issues.

Paracord as a backup sounds like a good idea!
