AC compressor turned off at a light today, what could cause this?
It was 93 outside and my ac had been on LOW for 10 minutes, i was at a light and the compressor turned off, i had the fan on half speed and that stayed on of course. i didn't try to turn it back on i wanted to check with you guys before doing anything. I drove for another 5 minutes and it never came back on. what could have caused this? any help is appreciated as usual.
I STFA for compressor shut down, and compressor turned off, i got no info.
On a side note, Mobil1 TDT 5w 40 is in 4 qt not 5 qt jugs now at wal mart here at least, all the other mobil1 are 5 qt. just FYI.

Here is my theory... based on my car doing similar things...
My car has an inoperable fan clutch, and I am convinced that the compressor is getting too hot, and causing a pressure problem because of the heat differential.
I need to replace that damn thing because anytime the temp. is 90 or better and I am sitting still for over 5 minutes the compressor will shut down until I get rolling and cool things back off a bit.

Mine does the same thing. But mine only stays on...
for about 5 minutes, and then it keep switching on/off the whole time the car is running. And when the compressor is on the car runs really rough.

My 1993 Audi 100 used to do that on really hot days
When it was 95-100?F and really humid I would get off the highway after a long drive and the compressor would shut down. I always thought that either the compressor overheated or the high temps cause the high side pressure to exceed the maximum and the pressure switch caused it to shut down. Never did figure out the real reason.

OK guys thanks for the replies, I have not pulled codes but i will do that later...
My fan clutch SEEMS ok, the fan doesn't wobble ect. but i will look into that further and see if the fan is working while AC is on, i haven't checked that for a few weeks.
I guess ill see if it works tomorrow I dont want to hurt anything, This goes back to my idea that i need some oil so im going to get it serviced to be safe because that would cause an overheat i would imagine.
I also think since all the people on this forum say the AC is outstanding, mine is slacking a tad. so a service would be a good idea anyway, i really hope its not something serious because i cant deal with a costly repair and dont want to go without it this summer.

The thing that bugs me, is my outside temp said 93 at the time, and a week ago it said 110 in
traffic and the compressor ran the whole time. and if it cant run at 93, i have a serious issue with it because thats when i need it ya know?
