Default After-run coolant pump working?

Is there an easy way to tell if the after-run coolant pump is working? I'm not even sure where it is. I seem to be able to feel/hear coolant circulating (or at least some bubbling) in the upper hose after a hot shut down, but I don't hear anything that sounds like an electric pump. The electric fan does come on a couple of minutes after shut-down when hot, are the two switched together?

Default Get car hot, turn car off, listen to see if water is still flowing through it.

It's under the intake manifold, buy the cruise control diaphragm.

Default Best way to check...

On a cold engine the sound of the pump should be unmistakable. Under the IM there are two temperature sensors screwed into a coolant pipe. One of them has a two pin connector, the other has four pins. Unplug the two pin one and jumper the two contacts toghether. The fan and pump should come on.

Difficult to get engine that hot. Kevin's jumper-the-plug suggestion is easier.

Default Flog on the car on a warm day, it'll get that hot. My idea is easier.

kday's idea is the most sure-fire. This isn't a competition.

Default The difficulty with getting the engine really hot...

is that the coolant will be gurgling on its own, and the engine will be ticking and popping, so it'll be hard to isolate the pump noise. And if the engine is hot it would be inadvisable to grab on to the pump and feel for vibration.

If it was difficult to reach the plug I'd go with your way, but it really isn't hard to reach.

Default Just because you can get the pump to turn on does not mean it works

You need to try both methods to make sure that the switch is actually triggering the pump to turn on.

1)Jump the leads to confirm pump works
2) Get car nice and hot and turn off to confirm switch works.

My afterrun and fan turn on after every ride that hits operating temp as soon as the outside ambient temp reaches around 70. It worked this way with the bad thermostat that never closed and the new one.
