Buying an S4 and need some expert advice.
Hey all,
I posted earlier about looking to buy a 93 S4. I dont really know much about reliability and a good price and such. I found one with 175,000 miles, Stromung exhaust, chip. It runs nicely, however it has no useful service records, an accident history with replaced fender, rust along the bottom of the doors, somewhat faded paint on the hood, a cracked dash and some other minor issues. The price is 6000 (probably negotiable to 5500). It seems somewhat weird to me so I would like to get some expert advice as to whether you think this is worth it or not. Heres the listing. Thanks in advance please help.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=242830132&dealer_id=10 0017284&car_year=1993&model=S4&num_rec ords=25&systime=&make2=&start_year=198 1&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsre p=&

I've seen the car up there.
I don't know anything about the car, but you'll have a hard time finding anyone here that has anything bad to say about CMC. Brian is well known in the S car community and used to own a killer S car (now Scott Napier's car); he is a true enthusiast. CMC was also host to S-Fest 2007.

With no records, accident history, rust, faded paint and a cracked dash $6k seems absurd...
...although if that's the car for you and cost is of no issue then $6k may be just right. ;-)
But whenever I get a car without records I change the timing belt & associated parts, water pump, t-stat and such just to establish that they have been changed. Also consider a O2 sensor. What shape is the suspension in?
Also depends on what else the car needs...how are the brakes? tires? A/C? Does everything else work as it should?
Can you live with a cracked dash, rust, accident repair and faded paint?
Now if you could pick up that car for $2k and then bring it up to snuff it might be a deal, but $6k plus who knows how much more.......
