Default Coolant Leak question

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/96737/coolant_leak.jpg"></center><p>I've searched and searched but have come up with nothing concrete so I'm going ask...
I noticed a small coolant leak on the drivers side of the block yesterday. Resevoir was down less than a cup, but any leak is bad in my books.
I tightened every clamp I could find and checked the after run pump for leaks but it all looks fine.
Is possible that coolant is leaking out from around the breather assy? ETKA shows the ball shaped cap as p/n 054 103 129 (see pic poster)but there is no seal referenced and I know nothing about it.
Is it more likely a leak higher up and just leaving its trail there? Note the white trail up under the IM but I can't see a thing.
Is it possible that the after run pump is dead and coolant is boiling out there? I have heard it before just haven't noticed it lately and I tried to pull the wire connectors of the thermal switch, but the rubber seems brittle. I don't really want to disturb them unless someone thinks this is a real possibility and I need to test it.
Anybody seen this before...
Any help is appreciated...

Leak is higher up. There is no way coolant is leaking from your crankcase breather.

could be coming from the coolant manifold. What year/engine is this?

Default '97 S6 but it's got 305,000 km on it. So what should I be looking for?

Should I be looking at the after-run pump at all? There is one from a 2002 VR6 on ebay for $40...ends in 3 hours. Dibbs if I need one.

Rewiring (minor) required to use VR6 after-run pump. Suggest OEM S6 pump.

Default So what your telling me is the leak is a gasket on the water collector.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/96737/aan_water_cooling.jpg"></center><p>One of the triangular gaskets (#42) in the diagram. Hmm, I wonder if it might be the clamp at the back of the water collector?

If not, what is involved in removing the IM and the water collector. Anybody got a list of to do's when I go in to fix this. Obviously I'll install my new thermostat then. But does someone have a list of hoses, other gaskets and valve(s) that I should get before I start wrenching. What is the valve (oil soaked on my car) that comes down in front of the thermostat housing?

Default BTDT, my water manifold was leaking at the rearmost port

I had pics but I accidentally deleted them off my camera. It was odd, the o-ring had totally disintegrated.

On mine, I removed the intake manifold to get to it, really not too tough. You just need some long allen keys to remove the manifold.
