Default to prevent premature failure of my headlight switch

I left the high beams stock. When the HIDs power on the ignitor draws quite a bit of current.

Less than 10 amps per side, FWIW.

Default Re: Lobotomizing the Autocheck Lamp Warning Module

My 95 S6 came to me with a cheap HID kit. The headlight warning was not on. Then the ballasts went bad and the headlight warning did not come on. I replaced the kit with 9006 bulbs and now the headlight warning is on. I don't get it. Could the p.o. have "taught" the system to expect the HID kit's resistance?

My relay was not lobotomized, so I performed the procedure this afternoon and the headlight warning is still on.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

-john
