Default High risk insurance prices?

Hi guys, since my accident this summer my insurance went from $800 every six months to $1700. This is with progressive insurance. I probably have somewhere between 10 to 12 points so I know it should be high but this seems very high. For those that just can't seem to keep under 5 points on your license, what are you paying?

Elijah

Default I've got something like 4 speeding tickets now.

I pay an assload, but it's still less than that. $1500. Sucks when you're young.

-In MA the lowest you can go is a step 9 (I don't know why)
-New drivers start out as a step 15 (that was me way back)
-You lose 1 point a year if you're good (I was good for 1 year)
-Then I started sucking. So from a step 14 I got 3 or 4 speeding tickets. I'm a 20 now. =/

Default esurance.com

saved me $500 over geico/progressive.

totalled a car with them a few months ago...they've been very good at handling the claim.

Default I'm a step 9

I pay $1100 a year in MA for my S4.

Somehow moving to MA wiped my record. I have a few tickets within the last 6 years. One in MA maybe two years ago. Maybe illegal left turns don't count for points? Nah. I think I'm just lucky. Every time I call my insurance agent I worry they'll get it figured out.

Default I really want the Lidatek.

But things like that aren't my problem.

For instance... on Halloween I got a speeding ticket for 70 in a 55. Cop merged in front of me (in an undercover car, but I saw the plate). So I slowed down and gave him some space. Followed him at 70 mph for 1/4 mile or so. He pulls over quickly and then turns his lights on. I pass him, pull over, and get a ticket for 70 in a 55. Terrible. This was on Route 2.

Anyways, I think I can fight it and win.

Default I commute to work on the Pike

From Allston to Framingham and back. At least once a week I get hit with laser. It's actually pretty interesting, since usually there's enough traffic that I'm not the first one hit. Typically the V1 (mounted above the center mirror) goes off a few seconds before the Lidatek (mounted under the front plate). I assume that's when the cop is targetting other cars. Then the LE-30 goes off when there's a clear view to my plate from the cop's vantage point. It's pretty cool, and seems to imply that a laser detector (w/o jammer) is actually useful in some cases.

Since I travel this way all the time, I know where to expect the speed traps. But if I didn't have the laser jammer I'd have found them the hard way. The first time I ever saw laser on the Pike (a month or two after I got the jammer -- it was very fortuitous timing) I got hit going 90 in a 65... that woulda hurt. It's not the only time it's saved my step 9, either. I would definitely recommend it. That $400 is leaving your pocket one way or the other; may as well send it to Lidatek.
