Default More learning curve working with Carbon Fibre (MFCSSB!!)

After sucessfully doing a CF overlay on a burl HVAC surround, I started doing an overlay on an actual 93 S4 black plastic surround. Prepped it like the burl one, i.e. sanded with 120 grit to roughen up, removed dust etc. Documented the whole process with photos. Get down to the third and final resin coat today and...

Leave the house with the coat looking absolutely gorgeous and everything flat. Go out with my wife for the afternoon, come back, check it and....

WTF??? The overlay curled and pulled away from the surround (obviously resin doesn't bond to plastic as well as it does to the covering on the burl).

Maddening because otherwise the resin in the final coat is perfect.

Must have been a heat issue.

Really have to invest in the vacuum bag materials etc.

I am going to try to salvage this one with epoxy between the CF and the plastic (and a brick to hold it flat). Might as well try. Nothing to lose.

Default Got a little project going myself.

Default I know. Trying the epoxy "trick" right now. Using 6 wine bottles (full) and clamps to hold it flat.

Not very confident but the alternative is starting over again. Not ready to do that yet.

Default Did this one before, no mould. Must have been heavier on the first coat.

Default Maybe you should...

...hold it down with 5.5 bottles of wine (if you know what I mean), just in case it doesn't work out. ;-)
