Default Tool number 3214

Hello all. I have had to create a new member since my past menber info is lost somewhere. However, I have a simple question and hope that someone can point me in the correct direction.

I need to rent or buy a service tool to complete the replacement of my fuel pump. the tool number is 3214. It allows proper removal and installation of the pump into the tank.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Erik

Not 100% needed. You can replace the fuel pump without that tool and without removing the basket, if need be:

The fuel pump has been removed from the basket. My concern is that the basket and the base rotate more than I'd like and I don't want to break any of the plastic parts especially the base that is attached to the bottom of the tank. After 419,000 miles it is finally time to do this and do it correctly. I was a bit surprised to see that the new superceded Audi fuel pump has studs like the images in the ORIGINAL PUMP has a spade and hard shell connector. The new pump DOES NOT come with nuts or a hard shell connector/pigtail. That is annoying.

The custom made tool by the Swede is a great solution to my problem if I can't find a 3214 tool in the next few days.

The original OE fuel pumps were VDO and they came with two different sized stud terminals and nyloc nuts. The OE harness had two different sized ring terminals so you couldn't connect the pump incorrectly. The aftermarket Bosch pumps had (have) the hardshell spade connector system. So it would appear that your pump has been changed at least once. I am running the Bosch pump and I have a spare that I carry in the car. That said, I kept the OE pig tails and ring terminals that I cut off when I installed the Bosch pump. What you have now is probably VDO Siemens. So you need to either get a Bosch as described or figure out an adapter harness with spades and ring terminals.

I did this a year or so ago and also used the less expensive Bosch pump, and changed the connectors. Seems the Siemens pump was about ~$50 more. All the proper harness bits should come with the Bosch pump, if someone didn't open and lose them beforehand.

Cheers to All
