Cracked windshield — Safelite ok or dealer?
#11
My Q8 took a rock to the windshield about 2 weeks ago on my way home traveling through Richmond, VA. Progressive Insurance sent me to Safelite. It definitely was not repairable. Safelite replaced it with OEM glass and did the calibration. I am totally satisfied. Took about 3 hours.

I just had my windshield replaced
by safelite, I specified an OEM windshield and paid the 600.00 difference in price. Make sure the installer is familiar with Audi!
Ugh, on way to the beach and almost there a pebble or something kicked up from a car going the other direction put a nice little penny size ding in the middle of the front windshield.
We use USAA. They will direct us to Safelite, but I’m kind of wondering if I want to steer towards the dealer? Anyone know if Safelite uses OEM windshields or any other opinion on them performing the replacement on an RSQ8? My suspicion is all Q8s use the same front windshield but that doesn’t mean they will use the same part as Audi, though they very well might. My main anxiety is if upon resale it could be obvious it doesn’t have an original Audi front windshield or not?

I'm facing this question. I spoke with Safelite. I requested OEM glass and they said they would use OEM glass. They gave me their partner number FW05267GTYNOEM but that's different than the Audi genuine part number which is 4M8-845-099-H-NVB for my vehicle. Does any know if safelite is using the same glass and just has a different part numbering system? Or is something else going on here?

With all the camera/sensors in these cars I would just have the dealer handle it. They will have to do the recalibration anyway.

Safelite with OEM glass. Had to do this with our 1 month old etron.
Safelite replaced the glass (OEM glass), had to go to the dealership to complete the calibration.
If I took the car to the dealership, they were going to farm out the glass replacement anyways. (Might just be our dealerships situation).
No issues with the Safelite work or dealership's work afterwards.
