R8 shift gate...
Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever had any issues "shifting fast" due to the shift gate on the R8?
I was "bench racing" with a friend of mine over lunch and frankly, I think he's an idiot. He was approaching it from a purist on-the-track perspective. My stance is that the R8, (while perfectly capable) isn't designed as a track car so much as a supercar for the streets. So complaining about a shift gate is akin to complaining about climate control and power seats.
I just figured I'd get some real world perspective from you guys
Appologies if this sounds like a n00b question. I used to be around quite a bit on the B5 S4 forum... and then withdrew from AW to focus on "the real world" for a while.
I was just in looking at an R8 this weekend and hence my topic of discussion

Can't say with regards to the R8
but it's not a problem on our F355 - track or street;-)
In fact there is no internal shift gate. That gate you see on a Ferrari is what guides the lever to the correct spot.

Re: R8 shift gate...
It took me a few days to get used to the shift gate vs. the RS4. But eventually it becomes natural. It's not going to give you the timing that the R-Tronic gives you, however. But I like it the way it is.
