"is it more exciting to drive and easier to live with...?"
Well easier to live with than a Porsche is going to be tough - it's one of the remarkable traits of the 911. My turbo has 485hp but it putters around town like a Camry - and of the eight 911's I've owned, all have been bullet proof reliable. Making it more exciting to drive will be tough as well - Porsche have had 40+ years to get sportcar dynamics down pat.
But making it an exciting car (a car to lust after) is where Audi can really succeed over Porsche. Porsches are visually boring and the #1 question I get about mine is "what year is it?". Also, the exhaust and engine sound on the turbo is best described as the cross between a Hoover and Dyson. Sure, I can spend 4K to put an aftermarket exhaust on the car but why should I have to. R8 will do very well against Porsche and Corvette because it is such an exciting package.
But ask enthusiasts who track their cars where they would spend their 100K and I think Audi will have much to prove.

it is not really necessary to defend the P everytime someone says the R
excels in some way... I think it is clear to everyone that you love your 911t but comparing how "easy it is to live w/" versus a car you have not owned or driven around, makes you come off as fan-boy who feels the need to defend his brands honor.
Note that I am not making claims about the audi - just making a general comment here.

nope, I'm really not defending Porsche
especially since I'm no.2 on the list at my dealer for a R8, however, when some journalist says or writes something that is hyperbolic crap, I choose to respond. Don't mean to offend anyone
