Alpine in Audi 2000 A6
I am trying to place an order for an A6 2.7T, and I intend to replace the factory head unit with an Alpine CVA-1005 (MultiMedia receiver with fold out LCD panel) and a CD or DVD deck, and an N851A (Alpine DVD Navigation unit). I would prefer not to replace the factory amps/speakers/cables if possible.
All the installers I have spoken to, suggest I get the stock Audi radio and not the Bose upgrade. The installers are not super familiar with Audi audio gear, but intuitively feel the Bose will be more difficult to deal with and more likely to necessitate adding new speakers/amps/cables with the Alpine gear.
The bummer is that I have found my ideal configed car except that it has the Bose upgrade. It will save me 1-2 months of waiting for the car if I can add the Alpine to the Bose.
I am more of a gear-head than an audiophile, hence my lack of concern for high grade speakers/amps. I am mainly doing the upgrade for the NAV system; I would just install a separate NAV system and leave the Bose head unit, but I hate to ruin the beautiful Audi interior with a separate LCD panel on a post.
Does anyone here have any opinions / thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason

Yeah,I ran into the same problem when I decided to replace my TT's Bose with an Alpine CVA, you will have to replace the speakers and amps because they are low impedance speakers and preamped at the speaker themselves,
Hope this helps,

Have you priced out that option without changing the speakers, Because I was going to do the same thing in my S4. Pull out the stock head unit and put the CVA-1005 in with the DVD based nav. system, and the new portable DVD player. So basicly if you don't mind me asking do you have a rough idea of how much it will cost you to do that in your A6??

I don't have a firm price, and I haven't priced out the DVD player yet (only the CVA1005 and DVD NAV) and together they are running about $2500 (installed with a custom face-plate to match the Audi interior).
Unfortunately it is not clear yet if it is even possible to do the upgrade withour replacing speakers (it appears it's not possible with the Bose, but may be with the base system).
