B7 audio system ?'s
My B7 does not have Bose.
There is an 8" sub in the rear deck that appers to be down-firing into the trunk.
Is that sub powered by a separate amp? If so, where is that amp located? The manual says that it is an "active" speaker, thus I believe it is powered, but where is the amp?
The manual says the sub amp is 70watts.
I'm considering taking out the OEM 8" sub and using an aftermarket and power it with my own amp.
Anyone done that?
Also, the manual states that the HU has 4 "line outputs" and suggests that those line outs can be hooked to external aftermarket amps. Is it true that the HU in the B7 has 4 line outs? That would be great.

My partial replies...
I don't know the seperate amp location off the top.I suspect it's in the trunk behind the trunk liner near the CD changer location.
If you have non-Bose, doesn't that amp also drive the rears? I think it does.
DLS makes open-air 8" and 10" that should work well off of that rear deck (with a plate). Most woofers work terribly in infinite-baffle installations. The only ones I know any more that work well that way are DLS and Alumapro, and ONLY the ones that are made for that application. The woofers that say they will work in every single kind of application (small sealed, ported, IB) usually stink in IB installations.

Yes all Audi HU's have front & rear pre-outs. You can pick the rears up off the sub/rear amp if
you find it. It's in the right cubbyhole on most models and yes it does power both sub & rears, so you may need to keep it for the rears.
Alternatively you can pull the Hu and run RCA's back to the boot, but you'll need the Blaupunkt RCA adapter in order to plug RCA's into the HU.

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=79</a
