Default Comments on Iway 500c

I am at the moment looking into gps units for my car. I am not necessarily set on any one, but through my searches I have came upon the Lawrence Iway 500c. It seems to be at the head of the pack.

I understand that RNSE built in navigation would be a sleaker unit, but the one thing this unit has to do is move between cars.

Just wondering if anyone had this unit or has heard anything about it.

Default haven't heard much about that one...

but the garmin nuvi series is very popular. I've got the less fancified garmin streetpilot c320. works great, IMHO. only thing I wish it had was text to speech prompting.

otherwise, mine isn't as sleek as the nuvi or the iway, but it works just fine. And for <$300, it's a steal.

I have one. Seems to work pretty well, although you do pay premium for a 5" screeen and a large hard drive. Has the advantage of not needing to reload maps if you travel across the country, and the screen is big and very bright though.

If you do not require a large screen and have a Costco membership, I would look at Magellan 3050T for about the same (if not less) money -- you also get live traffic with it.

For either unit, an external antenna would be very helpful -- with unit sitting on the dashboard, the roof blocks most of the view of the sky.

Default comments on portable navs.

i just finished a round trip to washington dc
total ride about 1100 mi with my alpine blackbird.
it spent more time lost than anything
it was totally worthless
when i got back i called alpine tech support their comment; was my car an audi or a benz. apparently the amount of lead in the windshield restricted the ability of the nav to receive the satellites
so make sure you get an outside antenna, perhaps for each car.
