Default Installing amp and new front speakers, looking for advice

Hey folks,

I'm getting ready to install an amp and new front speakers on my 2001 1.8T sedan. I'm wondering which of the following is best for getting the signal from the HU to the trunk:

- Install line-level adapter (already have one) behind the HU and run shielded RCA cables to the trunk for the amp

- Extend the amplified signal from the HU to the trunk and install the line-level adapter there, alongside the amp and speaker cross-overs

- Fabricate a patch cable to extend the line-level output from the HU to the trunk (anyone have good instructions for this?)

I'm mostly concerned with getting a clean signal with good tone, but ease of installation is important too. Thanks for your advice, and for letting me know the reasons for choosing any of the above .

I forgot to list option 4: wire speaker-level outs straight into amp. :-)

Install a line lever adapter at first, then run RCAs to the amp. The reason this is better is because if you get a Powered Line Level adapter like the PDL1 from Phoenix Gold, you run a 4-8 volt signal to your amps, instead of a Speaker Level signal which is a lot less. The extra voltage results and a better signal to the amp.

Default About the line adapter...

I have a non-powered one made by PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation).

1. Is the Phoenix Gold adapter something I'd want to upgrade to? How much would it cost?

2. If I use the PAC or the Phoenix Gold, would it be better mounted in the dash near the HU or in the trunk near the amp?

Thanks again.

Default I don't believe there are RCA outs...

The wiring diagram is in the attached link. It has been a few weeks since I had the HU pulled out, but I think that in order to use the line level outs, one of the following will be necessary:

- if there are existing wires for the line-level output of the front channels, it will be necessary to splice RCA interconnects to these wires

- if there are no existing wires, it will be necessary to somehow obtain the signal from the pins in the wiring harness and couple them with RCA interconnects

Has anyone done this? If so, what did you use for the negative (ground?) conductor for each channel? Thanks!

https://forums.audiworld.com/audio/msgs/12110.phtml</a
