Satellite Module replacement-2010 S5
All,
Need your advice. Last month, the satellite radio and real time traffic on Nav stopped working. The satellite option on the MMI disappeared. Took car to dealer and said I had to replace the satellite module, was quoted $1800!
I called an online retailer to purchase the module and replace it myself, but was told that the module needs to be programmed by the dealer so would need to get it replaced there.
Please confirm if it is true that the module will need programming. If yes, any recommendations for a shop that can do this in the Los Angeles/Orange County areas. OR would it make sense to get an entirely new head unit and nav system???
Thanks!

Yes, the SAT Unit has built-in component protection that needs to be disabled (activated) by an authorized Audi service center. The Audi service center will hook your car up to the Audi server and register the new SAT unit under your VIN #.
