Default For those that know about grounding the bose pin needed for flat output..

I currently have a JL Cleansweep in my 2001 A4. I am using the stock Symphony I headunit and there is no bose in my car. (the mini amp was connected to my rear speaker)

From a recent post it seems as though I could accomplish the same feat that the Cleansweep does by using a vag-com, putting my head into Bose mode (which sends a flat signal out, because with the bose setup the processing is done in the amp) and then grounding the "bose pin" to disable the bose feature? This results in a flat out that I can then use aftermarket amps with and produce the same results as the cleansweep does without messing around with grounding pins and the vagcom. Is this correct?

Next, is this "mod" of using the pin and the vag only possible on the Symphony I?

Specifically what pin is the bose pin that must be grounded? Which is "pin #1" or is this the wrong diagram?

Thank you

Default No VAG COM needed - that just controls the "BOSE" displayed on powerup.

I preface this by saying you should really examine the wiring diagrams for your year of car, Bose and non-Bose.

According to the wire diagrams I have, the current ground (-) wire in the harness is Pin 8. This makes the GA pin Pin 1 (next to the MUTE pin).

It seems that if you leave the GA pin floating, the internal EQ kicks in, and if the GA wire is grounded, the internal EQ turns off (since the Bose amp has EQ in it).

I have measured the output of Audi OEM radios with the output set to different values by a VAG COM. Didn't get any of them to flat until we grounded pin 1. Conversely, whenever Pin 1 is grounded, the VAG COM setting doesn't seem to affect anything on the output. I think it is how Audi fulfilled their contractual obligation with Bose for the radio to say "Bose" on all Bose systems. (Not sure what the RNS-E did to escape that fate).

My 2001 ar w/Bose had a SYM I, which I've upgraded to SYM II, and the seem to be just fine with the same connector (I didn't change the GA wire at all).

But some wiring diagrams show Pin 1 connected to the instrument cluster, which implies it is a GALA input. So I think the HU SW can tell the differences among floating, grounded, or speed pulses.

Default Gotcha, SO.. since I didnt have the pin 1 grounded, I "needed" the cleansweep, but

with that pin grounded, it will put out a flat signal and I can remove the cleansweep and still have the same high quality results? I just want to make sure before I start ripping the head out and the cleansweep. seeing as my car is an 01 A4 as well, do you have a diagram of your harness?

Mine's an allroad. I can get a Mitchell diagram tomorrow but the OEM would be best.

Default I do not know much about cleansweap...but I know a little about the pin grounding

To put the radio into flat output mode...you will need to ground the "bose" pin. I also have the symphony I and its very hard to tell what pin is the bose pin. However, after alot of searching I came to the conclusion that it was the pin labeled "GA" in that diagram. (Warning...this was just what I concluded not sure if its correct, but if you want some assurance that is what I did to my system and it sounds great)
