Default For those using the aftermarket front component....

How many of you here upgrade the stock front component to an aftermarket component? Do you all upgrade to 4" or 5 1/4"?
Many of you say that the 5 1/4" will produce more midbass/midrange? I have no idea what midbass/midrange really is, forgive me I am new to car audio. I will leave my rear speakers as stock for now, maybe planning to add an amp in the future.

I have two choices, one is to get the Boston Acoustics 4" ProSeries, second is to get the 5 1/4" Rally Series. Since the quality for the ProSeries is better than the Rally Series, therefore it's pretty tough for me to choose between these two.

Default Rule of thumb...

the larger the speaker the lower frequencies it is capable of producing... generally speaking.

It's desirable to get a decent amount of midbass up in the front of your car. the stock 4" drivers aren't really capable of producing those frequencies so most guys upgrade to 5-1/4". The extra surface area of the speaker means it can move more air each time it moves.

Default Re: go with the 5.25's

Some people suggest me to get a set of front component powered by an amp to get the best sound quality. They also said if I don't the sound quality will sound even worse than the stock speakers. Well, what do you guys think?

Default that is true

many aftermarket high end speakers are not as efficient... they are very power hungry. If you under power them, they might sound worse than just leaving the stock speakers in there.
