^$&#$%#$@ Spots are still in the paint!
I used the 3M swirl remover with the Porter Cable set on 6 (out of 6). Still didn't get rid of the spots.
I applied the 3M like I did the Griots - across and up/down four times, buff, repeat 3 more times.
There's still one scratch in the area I am working on. I can't feel it but I can still see it. Maybe I need something more aggressive, but I won't do that on my own without professional guidance.
Sigh.

Mostly correct. Some of the spots are clearing up, but most still remain.
The finish also has an uneven sheen. If you look at a reflection in the paint and then move slowly, you see the reflection ripple as if it's riding over bumps.
The sides of the car do not have this problem. Only the horizontal surfaces (hood, roof, trunk). I've only been working on the trunk so far.
BTW, thanks for your continued interest in this.

If you use say a 10X eyeloop can you tell if it is on the surface? Below? You are the orginal owner?
Just wondering. My brother in law has an "orphaned" 560SL with black paint. Last time I saw it it had little spots and seperate patches of cloudy clear coat. The cloudy clearcoat was from bird crap sitting on the car for months. (There was crap on it at Thanksgiving and we washed it off a few days after Christmas).
I'd guess the spots were from a tree or lack of wax. He bought the car used and 10 years old so the history is unknown.
My car has some small spots on the trunk that are hard to see. They look like a hard water deposit more than anything. Sort of like the spots you see on the moonroof glass sometimes. I plan on doing a 3M Swirl job on it in a few months. Using 3M IHG realy helped last summer. My car was leased in California for 3 years before I bought it.

What is an eyeloop?
I am the original owner. The car sat on the dealer lot for 8 months before I came along. I am guessing that is the source of the problem.
The dealer waxed the car when I bought it last August. The beading was starting to go recently, so I decided to give it the full polish/wax treatment.
The spots have been there for months, but I assumed that a good polish would take them out.
Live and learn. Just sucks to learn on a new $50K car.

Before this problem began, I decided to switch to P21S from Griots.
My P21S stuff should arrive later this week. I know the Cleanser is not aggressive, but I am hoping (perhaps, unrealistically) that it will have some magic in it and whisk those spots away.

Try some vinegar on the paint.

Sometimes vinegar will remove some hard to remove water spots. Have you tried 3M Imperial Hand Glaze? This usually takes out spots on the paint and small imperfections. Do this by hand and not with a machine. There is also 3M Machine Glaze for machines, but be careful. You can get the 3M products at local Pep Boys usually. I get my products at either Car Care Online or at a local automotive paint store.

Cleaning Paintwork Article

Re: What is an eyeloop? A small cheap magnifier.
I'd guess the 8 months of sitting on the lot too but that's probably good news. I'd guess it's a surface problem knowing that.
You can stick it in your eye or on a flat surface. A magnifying glass would work.
