Step 1:
Don't let the dealer prep your car or else you are bound to get swirl marks..
Step 2:
go to Autopia and click on "learn" on the top left corner..Read everything there and you should be all set..

Autopia car care

Default Oh yeah..

Be prepared to spend $200 or so to start...
A good kit to begin with is the P21s kit with wash, wax, wheel cleaner, and paint cleanser.
This goes for $39.99 at topoftheline.

Then you want a few sheepskin washmits..about $15 at Costco.

Two buckets - $5

Microfiber cloths - 5 -10 for detailing, and 2 waffle weave ones for drying - $80

That will get you started until you get swirls..

You may also want to pick up a polymer protectant to put underneath the wax..such as Klasse AIO and SG. Basically you would use these to protect the car, and the wax just to enhance the appearance of the Klasse. These would run $50 for the pair.

Once you get swirls then you will need a PC7424, pads, and polishes. Just those will run about $200.

I had about 200 bucks worth of stuff for my A4, I want to "really" detail my car now though, get a buffer and all.

Default You won't need a buffer just yet..HOPEFULLY

You may not need a buffer with a brand new car and good wash techniques for a while. The best case scenario is if you keep your paint pristine and well protected enough to not need any polishing. If you start needing a buffer everyone here recommends getting a PC7424 with a 6" counterweight and velcro backing pad. Then you would want at least 1 gray pad, 1 orange or yellow pads, and 1 white pads from properautocare.com.
This would allow you to do a compound step, then a swirl/ haze removal/light polish, and finally a protectant.

OH yeah you probably need a claybar, especially if you plan on prepping the car yourself. Claymagic seems the most recommended but basically any will do (mother's, pinnacle, griots, 3M, etc)

Default Another thing

What products do you have right now and what color S4 are you going to order? I can probably help you better that way and maybe save you a bit of money too.

Default Re: Another thing

Its Norogo Blue with the Black Recaro's on the inside (no Alcantra inserts) My current list of products (what I remember at least):

3M Imperial Hand Glaze
3M Swirl Mark Remover
Eagle One Scratch Remover
Pinnicale Natural Brilliance Bodywork Shampoo
Pinnicale Poly Clay
3M Show Car Paste Wax
Meguires Quick Detail Spray
Pinnicale Quick Detail Spray

FYI: I have no qualms with replacing it all to get what is gonna treat the car best. Im spending around 53k on the car, I want it to at least look good :-). Thanks again for all your help.
