Default Scratches in metal (shifter plate)

Anyone have some good ideas to help address a few scratches in the aluminum on my shift plate (around the Tiptronic)? I have a feeling its never going to look any better...

Thanks in advance

Is the metal plastic coated? If so, try some 3M Plastic Polish

If not, depending on how deep the scratches are you could try some mag/aluminum polish to buff them out.

I'm pretty sure it's not plastic coated, but the scratch is into the aluminum, looks almost white in contrast to the metal. I will test a small area of Mothers aluminum mag polish. Thx

Default I hate to say this..and I'm sorry you've got scratches there, but....

The very first time I saw the interior of the '02 A4, that metal plate around the shifter looked to me like a scratch waiting to happen (hey, check the archives, I said it, I said it!). Just seems like a bad design to me. Anyway, sorry to hear you're in that situation. Also sorry I can't help! If it makes you feel any better, Audi's high-gloss wood trim isn't any more scratch resistant.

Default You are probably SOL.. I have a # of scratches in mine...

And nothing seems to work. They are still the same color as the plate, but they are feelable in depth which means there is no way to fix them. If the '02 is like the '02, that entire plate is an entire asembly which includes all the under electronics to light the shifter plate. It's a close to $300 part on my '01.

In my case, I know for fact the guys who wash the car after service scratch it every time with their vacuum hose, so I will be making my dealer replace it, but not until it gets worse :/

Has anybody tried metal polish to get the scratches out? Any success?
