Using rubbing compound to remove scratches for the first time, whats the procedure?
Long story short, a patio umbrella got loose at my girlfriend's house, and put some scratches in the paint. I figured I could use rubbing compound to get it out but i'm unsure of the process as i've never used it before. Figured i'd need to wash it, use the rubbing compound, wash it again, then polish?
Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Step away from the car. I would not use rubbing compound. It's just too harsh / aggressive
Please post a picture of the scratches. There are many people on this board that will be able to give you advice and / or guide you through the scratch removal process.

Sorry about the crappy pictures but it's currently the only camera I have access to.
You can kind of get the idea from these. It also put two long horizontal scratches in the front and rear windows, so i'm also trying to figure out if I can some how get those out as well or have to buy new glass.

Go to Auto Zone or similar store and get Megiuar's fine-cut cleaner and their swirl mark remover
then get some handheld foam wax applicator pads. No reason to break out a machine to do spot repairs. The professional line of Meguiar's is pretty good stuff, and has done me right.
1.clean car
2.buff scratches with fine cut cleaner
3.wipe clean with microfiber
4.go back over scratch area with swirl remover and a new applicator pad
5.wipe clean and you're good to go.
Scratches might not totally dissapear, but they will be much less noticeable.

Does your finger nail catch on the scratch?
If so, buffing the car out will minimize but not remove the scratch. It may have to be wet sanded (professionally).
If not, try Menzerna IP with a white pad (only go to an orange pad if the results are unsatisfactory). Once the mark is removed, go to FP II with a white pad then apply wax.
I have had excellent results with 3M Swirl Mark Remover, followed by Finesse It II. Either product does a great job.
Good Luck

It catches on the one at the top of the C pillar but the rest it doesn't.
Getting the car wet sanded isn't an issue, I just was hoping to be able to do most of it on my own.

If the paint is gone, repaint is your only option. On the other scuffs / scratches ...........
always start with the least aggressive polish to remove them. If the least aggressive polish doesn't work, carefully go more aggressive. If you have any doubts, let a pro look at it. Better safe than sorry.
