Fixing Brake Judder?
Subject car is a 2009 S5, with stock brake pads and rotors. I'm afraid that at my last track session I may have over-heated the brakes a bit, and now I have a bad case of vibration when braking. I suspect that this is caused by deposits of the brake pad material onto the rotors. So the question is - how to fix it? From research on the web I have found that some people advocate running semi-metallic race pads for a few miles, and let the abrasiveness of the hard pads scrub off the softer material left from the stock pads - this technique is decribed on the StopTech web site. The problem with this approach is there are very few choices for race pads that fit the S5 stock calipers - the only thing I've found that's close are Ferodo 2500's, but I suspect that they may not be hard enough to do the trick. Another idea mentioned on the web is to use garnet paper to sand deposits off - it takes a lot of elbow grease, but is an inexpensive fix. So - anyone have experience with this approach? Other ideas (short of replacing the rotors)?
Once I get this fixed I am going to invest in new pads - I am hoping that Hawk or other vendors may finally introduce products for this car before next spring's track events get underway.
