2001 1.8T hesitation when accelerating
I went out the other day to test drive a couple of 2001 A4's (automatic) and I noticed in one that there was a slight hesitation or stutter the odd time going from around 20-60Km/h for maybe half a second. The dealer said the car had been checked out at Audi for this and that this was apparently normal for the 1.8T's to lag a bit or hesitate, but it didn't seem quite right to me.
So I drove another one later on in the afternoon and it seemed to have great response accelerating when I tested it out a few times. So I guess my question would be... has anyone had this problem with the hesitation/lagging on their 1.8's?
I'm also curious if anyone who has traded theirs in recently cares to divulge what they got or how much the dealers are offering. I think the black book was around $18-$21,000 and I've seen prices anywhere from 21-31K from dealers so I'm not sure what to spend and want to be careful what I'm getting if the price seems too good to be true.

Not mine, but my parents had a tiptronic (2000), 170hp the car drove fine but it didn't have good
crisp response, you had to rev it to about 3000rpm to get any good accel... Could be many things, air filter, fuel filter, bad turbo, bad slushbox, leak in the turbo...
For what its worth, don't get the one with the stutter.
Good luck on your shopping...

You're right, I won't be getting that one since I don't have any confidence in it...
It's tough enough just finding the car I want let alone one I think is in good mechanical shape. I'm looking for an 01' 1.8T (automatic) in Black w/sport pkg with < 80,000k's ...the hunting continues.
I'm not even sure how much I should pay... I found one I liked but the dealer wouldn't budge on the sticker price (26K) I've seen similar go for 22K.
thanks for the feedback guys.

There is a consistent amount of turbo lag but only from 0 to 20.
I just sold my 2001 1.8T tip w everything but bose for 21,700.
What you should do is tell all the gta dealers that you are looking. That way if someone is trading one in you can get a deal and the seller can save on taxes on their new car.
