Friend got key fob stolen of his B7 along with wallet and home address. He's freaking out!

Default Friend got key fob stolen of his B7 along with wallet and home address. He's freaking out!
Dealer wants an arm and a leg to change key fob and recode car.

This must have happened to others, are there more affordable options?

Due to his insurance deductible plus the risk of increase premium, he decided not to claim. He did disclose this to his insurance for a liability and risk point of view.

Are there ebay options available to him? I have the VAG-COM but I supose the key-fob need cutting and there's probably more to just re-vagging the fobs?

Suggestions?

Over the next few weeks, have him run a wire from the battery to the igniton lock.

Default Key and cluster are paired together, only the dealer has the proper tools

he had them inside the car? Or they broke into his house? ... what happened

Default Without cutting new keys and replacing the lock cylindars...
... no amount of VAG-COM will be safe. You can re initialize the immo3 but the mechanical key will still get him in.

He'll have to watch at the Gym that they don't just steel the car the next time he's there as well.
