Importing a car from Europe? Is it different that the US?
I know of a person selling a 2005 S4 Avant in Germany that is in amazing shape with 38K miles and exhaust/wheel/suspension upgrades on top. Car is Nogaro with the interior inserts. He imported the Car from the US to germany via military/diplomatic channels or something.
He is asking 32,000US shipped. Factoring in exchange (17%), duty (6%) and import fees (1k) this would bring the price to around 40,000k. Seems like a great deal as B6S4 are generally 48K plus here (autotrader avg) Is there something I'm missing that would add cost to the deal other than getting DRL's activated?

there are some issue that you might encounter you need full documentation
I brought mine from Germany, I bought 99 A6 avant and imported from Germany directly to Canada, at first I needed documentation from Audi US, that the vehicle was orginally sold in US..and it had all recalls done(recall clearance letter) next I needed to proof that the vehicle didn't went through any modification required that was done in Germany at local Audi Dealer , who verified and check the car, and sign off the papers..
this was necessary step required when the car would arrived in Canada, customs wouldn't pass the car at the port, and would cease the vehicle the rest is the same step if you would import car from US.. need the title of ownership, proof of sale, cost etc..
just to add to above info, I had problems with customs prior to shipping car from Germany, what Canada wanted me to do is ship the car to US and then import back to Canada, but then I would have issues in US with picking the car up clearing it, the US Soldier who was selling the car he was staying there for another 2 years, so he wasn't coming back to US just yet, I had to get clearance customs release papers in Germany from US Army so I can take the car of his hands..
There is a lot of paper work involved to get it from Germany a US car then getting it from south of the border.. I had time, since I was working there I was able to get all paper work prepared and fax to Canadian customs,
