Those in Vancouver out of warranty who go private mechanics for maint/repairs, where do U go?
I posted on the main forum whether most people go to dealer or private, and most said private, how about here?
If I go private, i'm wondering if people can recommend anyone downtown/north shore?

Have you tried searching at vwdov.ca?
I've recently brought my sister's '98 B5 2.8Q to Westmount in PoCo for timing belt (which included the belt, tensioner, roller, water pump and new coolant) for $615 before tax. Friendly guys there.

I think that you should continue to maintain your car at the dealer. I have found that Clarkdale has treated me very well both while under warranty and not under warranty. I have found in the past that the private shops don't know there way around Audi's and although there hourly rate is lower, they tend to take longer to do the same job. I know that dealers will give service discounts to customers that continue to service there cars with them. My theory is you don't get if you don't ask.

Interesting... I've always gone to Clarkdale actually.
I like the tech that works on my car too, and the service advisor. I hadn't thought of a service discount... what percent might it be?

I have dealt with Clarkdale since 1996 when I bought my first A4, I then bought a 2001 S4 and now a 2005 S4. I keep buying Audi's partly because I love to drive them, but also the service that I have received is excellent.
As for discounts, I have seen 10-15%, I would call your advisor and say that you are considering going to a private repair person as you have heard that they could save you some $$$, they should respond with the suggestion that perhaps they could improve there prices. If they don't, then just ask for it.
As for the mechanic at Clarkdale, if you are talking about Bobby, I agree he is the best, he is the only guy that works on my cars.
