Anyone know of a good muffler shop?

There are plenty of reasons prices are different between shops..
that dont include you getting screwed.
Some shops might believe they can supply a superior product, some might have more or less experience doing exactly what you need, some may not even know what they would be getting into like the shop next to your step dad's dealership. And there is always plain old competition, some people are always going to charge less to get the sale.

Well.....
You could get a cheeseburger from McDonald's, Portillo's, or Fudruckers and they will all be different prices. I don't think it means one is trying to "screw" you more than the other. Although I really wish I could get the toy with the cheeseburger at McDonald's without having to dump all the investment into the happy meal but that's a different story.
Still, try to look at the big picture for just a moment. If you find a shop to do the down pipes for $150, figure that is several hours labor. Let's say for fun it's 3 hours. So the shop is charging you $50 an hour. Now out of that $50, they have to pay a tech, maybe a service advisor, and somehow make a profit on top of that. I know it's crazy to think that a shop after spending huge sums of money for investment to buy equipment plus the usual bills is entitled to a profit but it happens. At $50 an hour you are going to have a hard time finding a tech to work for what little bit you are going to be willing to pay and still maintain a profit. Now, let's say you're a seasoned 10 year plus tech, are you willing to work for what? $15-$20 per hour? Doubt it. I know I wouldn't and I am easy like Sunday morning. As everyone has preached, you get what you pay for. I'm willing to bet you paid more than $150 for your piggy pipes, so why wouldn't you invest to have it done right?
And as far as having something custom bent over something premade because an engineer told you so, what kind of engineer is this? I am willing to bet someone who engineers sink faucets for a living probably doesn't know a whole lot about automotive. How is any engineer going to tell you to have someone whip something up with no bench testing, flow numbers or anything else tell you that you're better off that way?
If you decide to have your step dad's shop do the piggy pipes for under $200 bucks, let me know when they are going to do it. I would like to come by with my lawn chair and a case of beer and watch them in action while they do it and lose their tails on it.

I like the Faith No More rendition.
The video makes as much sense as buying a B5 S4.<ul><li><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2qus5u75FE">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2qus5u75FE</a</li></ul>
