I guess what surprises me is that I see the old guard mods, you, pierre, April, still here getting the **** kicked out of you as a result of this change. To all appearances, IB has been silent, and they seem to be content to see you all twist in the wind, or even ignore the situation entirely.

We, the most vocal of the displaced, find ourselves sparring with an unwilling, unmotivated partner, who may or may not be able to affect change. The perception is that IB has hit and run.

I can't tell if I am wasting my time and should STFU, if change is in the works and I can STFU, or if IB is monitoring/evaluating and I should make my voice heard.

I think with a few days of navigating through the VBulletin sw most will enjoy its flexibility and ease of use.

Since you all probably own an Audi vehicle...their most recent marketing campaign has been 'Truth in Technology'...why can't the AW members embrace this change as just that?

We're experiencing some pivotal times in our US economy these days, and change was even the theme of the Obama campaign. I didn't vote for him, but I can still get behind the idea of change for the better.

Give it some time and stop whining about things you can't change.
End Rant.

AW Staff: Thanks for updating to a superior sw in most all manners...hang in there, people will come around and embrace your endeavors to improve the Audi enthusiast community.

I must admit, I did not care one way or the other and mirrored your comments on those who complained...until I started trying to use the site.

Search functions you say? A mess.

DIY? Where are they now? Can't find them using search or anything else. I had to get a timing belt DIY from another site.

While I am fine with the "look" I used this site mainly to get information about our cars, tips on working on them, searching for parts, etc. As it, it can not be used and is the big reason many are moving on. I think it is a bit imature to call those who have justified complaints "haters". I do not hate the new look (in fact, I like it) but the website no longer provides the information I coveted. It is no longer useful in this form, and hopefully there will be some changes that will allow easy access to the diy tech sessions, and a better search engine.

This isn't directed at you but I'm going to use your post as an example. When I read people complaining about the new format, I try to put myself in their shoes and understand the problem. My impression is that much of the time it seems to come down to either (1) personal preferences, which the person projects on the rest of the members as if everyone shares them (which often they don't), or (2) mistakes in using the new format, as opposed to missing functionality.

For example, you said that you couldn't find DIY material. If you meant tech articles, they're at the top of the page under the "Resources" -> "Tech Articles" link.

Regarding the search function, I agree it's not good, but it's significantly better than the one it replaced, and I don't see what this has to do with the format change.

Regarding my point (2), I'm not saying this is necessarily the user's fault: it might be the new format is inscrutable even for simple tasks. But I'm not seeing this.

Good luck
Rory

Disagree. The old search was much better than what we have now. I used to be the one that found the old posts to answer questions. The new search returns garbage. Don't know why, it just doesn't work like the old one.

Take a look at the voting thread and count up the number of "I hate it" comments and misc. negative feedback. My haters comment was strictly based on the feedback others had been giving.

This a pretty grand statement. Almost all of the core posters have left for their prefered layout. Strange how most of heavy posters don't like it here now.

Those of us who are trying to stay aren't having much fun. I have gotten flamed twice for technical advice. Guess you noobs have no respect for 22 years of mechnical experience.

When I made my comments, the tech section was not in place. It is now, as you pointed out. I just completed a timing belt change, and I really did have to get the information from another site.

With the changes that seemed to have taken place over the last few days, I can say I'm alright with the new format. I just reviewed the tech section, and everything is there now. Nice! The search engine is still a bit odd, but I assume it will get better.

I like the new look, and it appears they are working hard to regain most the functionality. I guess we are now in agreement.

I think it is a waste of time for thos who post only how much they hate the new site, and that it sucks. At least be objective and give specifics. Seems they are working hard on adding features.

No, because I actually like this place and want it to flourish. I am an old fart, yes ,but launch vb of AW new site was .... crap. The current view looks more promising, but likely too late to have any impact on mass leaving from here for alternate websites.

Out of interest, how are you defining "noob" and "core poster"? Posting volume? Years on AW? I don't see why it's helpful to use those labels at all.

By the way, I can think of a number of people who have high post volume because they reply to just about anything on a forum, often without anything to say.

This is a public forum, and there'll be members who like to be dicks and make life miserable for others. The only advice I can give is to rise above it and ignore them.
