Default Well, that was THOROUGHLY embarassing

Apparently when this dummy changed the oil a couple of weeks ago, I didn't put one screw back on the belly pan tight enough. The other day, I found it on the floor in the garage. Rather than fix it right then and there, I put it on the shelf and made a mental note to fix it later. This was Saturday.

Monday and Tuesday, I drive the Civic to work. Tuesday night (tonight), I take the A4 out. I'm taking WTF lessons with a bunch of my former coworkers in Arlington. WTF = Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot. Yeah yeah, say what you want, I don't care, it's fun.

Anyway, my mental capacity is completely lacking! I drove off tonight and drove down to Arlington. By the time I got there, I'm hearing this loud dragging noise. CRAP!!! The skid plate was draggig under the car.

OK, so after lessons, I try to get under the car to remove the stupid skid plate. Nope, the other two screws are in securely. I've got six of my coworkers standing out there with me. I get the tool kit out, get the screw driver out, I can't get the screw driver under there at the right angle because the car is too low. I pull out the jack, jack up the left front (hooray for the Audi jack, which BTW everyone thought worked perfectly). I'm partially under the car trying to unscrew the two other screws. I can't get totally under the car because it's not that high up, and the blanket I have in the trunk isn't all that big and I'm in nice clothes. The angle is awkward. My friend Jamie is in her S40 parked in front of me w/her high beams on so I have some light to see. Megan and Taylor are holding up the other side of the skid plate so the angle of the fallen side doesn't make getting the other two screws out difficult. Paul's sitting around saying "Jim, you'll never catch a Lexus owner under his car on the side of the road at night trying to fix it." He drives an IS300. My finger drags across the pavement, my knuckle starts bleeding, Lauren starts going "OMG, you're bleeding, are you ok???" I was fine.

What a fiasco! We're all sitting there saying, "how many people does it take to remove an Audi skid plate?" I finally got the other two screws out and got the stupid skid plate off. I threw everything in the trunk and we all left.

There really isn't much that embarrasses me...but I guess having to fix my car on the side of the road in front of friends that view me as the "car guy" will do it.

Default nice....now go tend to your boo-boo. ;o)

Glad everything worked out okay. You're crazy crawling underneath your car w/ the OEM jack. Your juevos are much bigger than mine.

Default The OEM jack is not all that bad.

Provided you're on a flat surface (which I was) and you mount it in the right location, it's fine.

Granted, it's not smart to get under a car that's not on a jack stand or a lift, but I had no other choice.
