Modine Radiator in 89 100 Quattro
Has anyone had any experience with Modine radiators in an 89 Quattro 100? I need to replace my original one and have been told to look for a metal one as a replacement (I am not too concerned about the weight increase over plastic as I only use my car for highway driving). I have found one in NY for a reasonable?? price ($145) but don't know a lot about Modine as to quality or ease of installation.

The quality is top-notch. As for ease of installation, it should be the same as the OEM plastic radiator.
There are a few big pluses to the metal radiator- no plastic end tanks and necks to crack or break from the heat. That is a very good price- where did you find a Modine dealer? I couldn't find one in SE PA. My radiator cost about $175, lifetime warranty, all-metal construction, purchased from my mechanic. I will probably get an all-metal radiator for my 200q when the radiator dies in that car as well, as long as someone makes one for the 20v that has the auxiliary radiator- don't know how that's plumbed, as I haven't taken a close look yet.
The only thing that I've found doesn't quite fit right is that the plastic radiator shroud doesn't have the tabs for it to hook into, so the shroud is only secured by the mounting screws.

I was looking for a Modine Radiator for my '89 200 and ended up using a plastic replacement tank offered by my trusted mechanic.
For $225 installed I got a lifetime warranty on the radiator that included both parts and labor. Seeing as how the radiator was replaced at 86,000 and 131,000 miles I no longer have to worry about shelling more money out for the radiator...
