For protection I've always heard they are about the same - what you are paying for is
features / weight reduction / name / graphics / etc.
Buy what fits you bets. If you go on day long rides, pay extra for lightness.
I have a huge round head, so the Scorpion fit me best. I couldn't find a Shoei that would work for me.

You happy with the Scorpion?
How's wind noise? I kinda like their stuff from looking at it. The EXO-1000 seems to be a nice buy for the money. I HATE changing shields and their quick system is what caught my eye.

If it's DOT-certified, buy the helmet that fits your head the best, with the features you want.
For example, both Arai and Shoei make helmets that are well regarded. I haven't yet found an Arai that fits my head. Therefore, Arai is a bad choice for me, no matter how good the helmet otherwise is. OTOH, my Shoei fits me very well. The reverse is true for my brother, so he wears an Arai and Shoeis give him a headache.
